WHAT IS THE FASTEST WAY TO PLAN A WEDDING?

When you ask: “What is the fastest way to plan a wedding” I don’t believe that you ask: “What is the fastest way to get married”. Therefore, I will skip getting married at the justice of the peace or courthouse which can be done as soon as the license you apply for is in force. In many stated the waiting period is 3 days.

To be realistic, long engagements are not necessary. You can plan and have a wedding within a short time. The first thing you need to do is decide on the style of wedding you want, who will conduct the ceremony and where it should take place.

Secure a date when an officiant is available. (Even next weekend). Choose a location where you do not depend on availability. If you want to have your wedding at a hall, for example, you may need to wait for an openning.

My grand daughter had a fantastic mid-morning GARDEN WEDDING. The ceremony and the reception took place at the same location. She did rent a tent, tables and chairs etc. that were delivered and set up the day before.

The guests took pictures and as requested emailed them to the newlyweds.

The flowers for the bridal bouquet were from a local florist but the rest were from the garden. The reception food was mostly finger food, fruit, meat and cheese platters, Soft drinks, water beer and wines from Costco, as well as sandwiches from Subway and pizza from a local Pizzeria.

The music was played right out of the computer and transmitted by rented speakers.

You do not need a lot of time to arrange such a fun wedding. The guests had a great time.

The only aspect that may take time is sending the invitations and waiting for replies. But in today’s environment even here you have options. You can email each of the invitees personally at his/her email address. Provide the information and ask everyone to reply to the email with how many people will attend.

WHY IS IT WRONG TO DRESS UP WELL FOR WEDDINGS?

Generally, it is not wrong to dress up well for weddings. The wedding ceremony is a solemn occasion and should be respected. Therefore, you should wear appropriate attire that fits the occasion. However, there are exceptions such as some outdoor garden, beach, barbecue, etc. Especially if the invitation states CASUAL DRESS. Otherwise, dress nicely but choose the right shoes. You will be uncomfortable wearing high hills to a wedding on the beach, for example.

WHAT IS A WEDDING DRESS CLEANING SERVICE?

If I am not mistaken, you actually want to know how to assure that your wedding gown will be not only clean, but preserved as a family heirloom. This is why you need to entrust your gown’s to a wedding dress cleaning service that specializes in gown cleaning and restoration.

The following should explain what a wedding dress cleaning and preservation service is, and why it is recommended.

You have thought about it since you were a little girl. You may even have dressed as a bride when playing dress-up. You pictured yourself and dreamed about being swept by your prince charming. As soon as you actually became ready to wear a wedding gown, you did research or fell in love with that, just right gown when you saw it in a picture. Now it is yours! and you want it to be an heirloom gown to pass on to the coming generations. So, how do you care for it before and after the wedding?

The following questions and answers should help.

How do I care for my wedding gown before the wedding?

Make sure that your gown is kept in a cool dry closet, away from impurities and smoke. If your gown is covered with plastic, remove it immediately and cover your it with a clean white sheet. While waiting for your wedding, the gown needs to breathe which it can not do while covered with plastic. If you need to transport your gown to the wedding site, keep it covered by the a sheet.

Why should I not only clean, but preserve my gown?

Do not just take it to any “Cleaners” in your neighborhood. Make sure the cleaner you trust your gown to will not only clean, but preserve it.

Case in point; After my wedding, my mother took the gown I borrowed from my sister in law to a “cleaner service” in our neighborhood. When she got it back, it looks fabulous! I returned the gown and my sister in law kept it in the “special” box. My niece wanted to wear it for her wedding. Lo and behold, when the gown was taken out of the box, it was a total disaster. Some parts of the gown were yellow and others such as the underarms were gray.

Since I was the last one to wear the gown, I felt responsible and paid for the gown my niece chose. It was a very expensive lesson!

The gown you wear at your wedding may have been that worn by your, or your husband’s mother, grandmother or another relative. Or, you purchased your own gown after a lot of thought, considerations and expense. Either way, you surely would like to preserve it as a family heirloom to hand down to your own daughter or future daughter in-law. You must take great care about choosing the right stain removal professional. If not cared for, your wedding gown may discolor and the fabric weaken as years go by. Invisible stains such as white wine, perspiration, sugar, salt, acid etc… must be removed permanently so they do not settled in the material. You must also take great care to store your gown properly.

When should I preserve my gown?

Treat your gown with the true preservation process as soon as possible after the wedding, before visible and invisible stains can set.

What is the difference between cleaning and preservation?

Cleaning any garment including a wedding gown, means that through a cleaning process the garment appears absolutely clean as all visible stains have been removed. yet, the garment may have invisible stains caused by sweat, white wine, sugar, salt, acidity etc… When you pick up your gown it looks clean and fresh. Will it look just as good five or ten years later? Or, will you discover instead that it has started to discolor, and looks even worse with the passing of time? Preserving any garment, including a wedding gown, is cleaning it to such a degree that even the smallest invisible stain has been totally and permanently removed. If done correctly, five and even ten or more years down the line, your gown will look just as lovely as it did when you first wore it. Preservation will safeguard your gown for years to come, so that your gown will not discolor and you’ll not find yellow and gray stains, nor will you find the material weakening. You may consider the fact that ALL first ladies gowns you can see in the museum have been cleaned by the preservation method. They may not have been fit for display otherwise.

How long should I wait before I have my gown cleaned?

Stains cause damage to any fabric over time. It is advisable to have your dress cleaned and preserved as soon after the wedding as is practical. Until you take your gown to be cleaned and preserved, keep it in a dark, dry, cool place, stored in a clean white sheet. Do not store your gown in plastic – such as a garment bag. Plastic will emit gases that will yellow the fabric. Your best bet is to hang it in a closet in your room.

What are my option regarding preserving my wedding gown?

Actually you have two options. You may choose a local service or you may opt for a wedding gown preservation company that may not be anywhere in your geographical location.

Caring for your gown

Environmental variants can cause permanent damage to fabric and non-woven dress components such as beads, lace, metal closures, embellishments and trimmings. So, whether your gown lies in a preservation box or hangs in a preservation bag, do not store it in the attic or basement. Protect your gown! Store it in the living area of your home that is controlled for safe and comfortable temperatures and humidity and is not exposed to excessive light, dust and other hazards. If your gown was packed in a “sealed box, be careful when you first “break the seal” to view your gown. Actually, the “seal” on the box your gown was delivered in, has no function in the preservation of the gown, and “breaking” it does not adversely affect your gown and should have no bearing on your warranty. Open the box slowly. If you open a sealed box all at once, the rush of air into the box will rapidly deoxygenate the chamber and may cause the fabric to deteriorate. Inspect your gown regularly about every 18 months to 2 years to assure it indeed is preserved. in fact, it is a good idea to “air” it at that time and let the fabric breath for about 30 minutes. Before you handle your gown wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water to remove any oils, salts and sweat that can damage delicate fabrics. Museum professionals often wear plain white cotton gloves so as not to damage the fabric. You should consider doing so as well.

About wedding gown preservation boxes breathing lessons

Professional textile curators always recommend that a fabric be allowed to “breathe”. In fact, neither the First Ladies’ Gowns nor presidential upholstered furniture nor even “Old Glory” (the “Star Spangled Banner” flag from 1814) are in air-tight or sealed rooms. Yet, they are beautifully preserved. Most preservation companies will store your wedding gown in a card board box. Some companies place your gown in plastic or shrink wrap. This should be unacceptable to you. On the other hand, responsible preservationists such as Wedding Gown Preservation Co. use treated acid-free or PH balanced breathable cardboard and tissue paper for your gown. If not in a breathable environment, even acid-free or PH balanced cardboard boxes can re-acidify over time, often in three to five years. This is why costume conservators and museum curators recommend checking and if necessary replacing these boxes periodically to ensure the proper long-term archival preservation of valuable textiles such as wedding gowns. Additionally you must handle your cardboard storage boxes with care.

How and where do I store my wedding gown that is in a preservation box?

Successful long-term preservation of your wedding gown depends on you. Where and how you keep the gown will have an effect on its condition. Store the box flat, with top side facing up. When you move the box, carry it as level as possible, so your gown does not shift. Protect your gown from extreme temperature and humidity, which may cause the material to deteriorate. All fibers even the cleanest, degrade under high temperatures, and many may discolor permanently. According to experts, curators and The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC., a sealed cardboard container that is not a breather, absorbs and can trap moisture that may promote the growth of mold or mildew within the storage chamber. This will stain and weaken the fibers of your gown as it affects even clean fabrics. Check the box for mold and mildew every few years, especially if you live by the beach or otherwise a high humidity area, as they may harm your gown. Therefore, it is not wise to store your gown in an attic or a cellar. Choose a cool dry place, without much traffic, and away from direct sunlight, to store your gown.

I don’t want to keep my gown in a box. Can I make a wedding gown preservation bag?

Absolutely and it is not difficult if you have a sewing machine or know someone who does. All you need is a clean white or light blue sheet. Choose a size that will provide your gown enough room to hang freely. Fold the sheet in half and sew the “open side. Sew the top leaving an opening for the hanging part of a clothes hanger. If you can find one, hang your gown on a padded hanger.

How and where do I store my wedding gown in the and Preservation Bag?

Hang your gown on soft preferable padded hangers, never on metal hangers, in the Preservation Bag in a closet within your living quarters. Inspecting your gown, showing it off and airing it as mentioned above.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU FELT LIKE YOUR GROOMSMAN DRESSED BETTER THAN YOU ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?

To avoid having your groomsman dressed better than you on your wedding day. You have 2 options:

  1. Have the best man and the groomsmen rent tuxedos or suits at the same time and from the same place as you do. Many attire rental shops will supply the groom’s tuxedo or suit for free if your party rents a minimum number.
  2. If the groomsmen wear their own set a dress code. For example: A Dark Blue suit, White shirt, Solid Light Blue tie etc.

Also, take care of your grooming. Be sure to be a very well groomed groom (pun intended).

But most importantly, you are marrying the love of your life. Celebrate this very special occasion and don’t worry about anything other than your happiness and joy.

What family members should you run your wedding invitation list by before you finalize it?

ANSWER:

Step one:

Create the wedding list naming the guests YOU want at your wedding.

Step two:

You should run your wedding invitation list by parents and siblings of both bride and groom before you finalize it for a few reasons:

  1. You do not want to offend family members (uncles, aunts, cousins etc.) by “forgetting” to invite them. (It happened to me. I did not even know that my nephew, I am his father’s only sibling, got married until I read it on Facebook. I was very very hurt.) Please avoid such hurts! Your wedding is a happy occasion that should be shared with family.
  2. You may want to know if there are any guests who should not be seated together for whatever reason.

Very often, the parents want to include a few close friends and coworkers.

Siblings may have suggestions too.

But, be sure to stay within your budget in terms of the number of guests you can afford to host.

If your list is larger than you budgeted for, ask your parents and or siblings to help pay for the over budget expenses.

How do I invite guests to my wedding last minute (two weeks before)? Do I call or text? Do I need to mention that space was limited (since they are obviously “B-list”). I want them there but I don’t want people to be insulted!

ANSWER:

Unless you invite guests to your wedding by a mailed timely printed invitation, you need to invite last minute guests with a direct, personal contact.

If you can possibly meet, let’s say for coffee or by visiting them, this is the best way. However, a phone call is another way to reach them.

DO NOT invite by Email! If I were to receive an email invitation, I would consider it as a “by the way” or an “after thought” invitation. My impression of such an invitation would be That I was not considered as a guest to start with and I am just a fill in for someone who cannot attend. I would not go. In fact a may not even reply to such an invitation.

If you invite by direct contact you can have the last minute invitees assured that you want them as your wedding guests. You may need to be ready in case they wonder and ask why you waited so long before inviting them. However, do not under any circumstances mention that originally space was limited or that you needed to wait and see if there will be room for them. No one wants to be considered a “second class citizen, or not quite as important as others as you phrased it: (since they are obviously “B-list”).

You don’t want people to be insulted! So, if you cannot assure them that their presence is important to you, you are better off NOT inviting them.

Is it weird to invite your teacher to your wedding?

ANSWER:

Once you have set the date you should send out ‘Save the Date’ cards addressed to would be guests, so that they will mark their calendars way in advance.

About 6 -8 weeks before the wedding send out the wedding invitations and pre-addressed stamped reply cards in the same envelope .

I have heard of invitations by TEXT and EMAIL. This is tacky! It is most certainly not the proper etiquette for inviting guests to a wedding.

Why do wedding invitation cards have the bride’s name before the wedding groom?

Since Biblical days as far as Eliezer asking Rebecca’s father to agree to her marrying Isaac, the groom (or his representative, relative, friend or a Match Maker) asked the father of the bride for her hand in marriage. In other word the bride was given to the groom. Additionally, tradition called for the bride’s family to put on the wedding, complete with planning and paying for it. They were also the ones sending out the invitations, So since they were the invitees they did so by wording it Mr. _____ and Mrs. ___ (inviting words)

to the marriage of their daughter _____________

Today, many but not all brides and grooms, rather than the parents, plan, pay and invite their guests to their wedding and word their invitations as they see fit. Yet many carry the tradition of the bride’s name first,

Why do parents want to invite additional friends to their kid’s wedding, even when they’re not paying for anything?

Over the years, parents have made many friends and acquaintances. They proudly want to share their happiness with everyone.

Sad to say that since they are not paying for the wedding, they do not consider BUDGET.

The best way for you to approach them is to be open and honest with them. Let them know your cost per guest, thus how many guests you can afford to invite on your wedding budget.

Give them the options to choose to either invite only (Number of) guests, or pay for their own guests.

Is it right for a family to invite my ex to a family wedding without notifying me?

ANSWER:

Just because s/he is your X, does not mean that his/her relationship with the rest of the family has changed. If they are still friendly, it is absolutely right for a family to invite your ex to a family wedding. Why do you think that they need to notify you or explain their decision to you?

Planning and getting ready for a wedding is most time consuming. The family is fully engage in the preparations as they are in large and small details. They probably did not even think about your personal preferences to be notified. Did you inquire to find out if your ex was invited? If the wedding is in the future, you may wish to contact the hosts and ask not to be seated at the same table with your X. Also, if the wedding did not take place yet, someone must have informed you that your X was invited.

Either way, it is your option to decline or attend the wedding.

If someone doesn’t RSVP for a wedding rehearsal dinner, do they get to eat?

If for some reason you did not reply to an RSVP but you intend to be at a wedding rehearsal dinner, notify the hosts.

Just call them to let them know that you will be there.

Otherwise, the answer depends on the arrangements the hosts made regarding the event.

If it is catered, the caterer uses a guest count and not having responded, you will not be counted which may result in you not getting to eat unless someone offers you his/her meal.

If the wedding rehearsal dinner is in a restaurant I believe that most hosts will pick up the tab for your meal, unless every guest pays their own way. (Going Dutch is done quite often when there is a budget issue.)

If the wedding rehearsal dinner is a buffet, there should be no issue. There will be more than enough food to accommodate an additional guest.

How do you invite friends on Facebook?

I will not invite friends to my wedding on Facebook because:

Not everyone is signed upon Facebook.

Many people who are signed up don’t visit Facebook often enough.

Watch out!!! If you place your invitation on Facebook, you may find yourself with replies from people you did not intend to invite.

Most importantly, receiving a personal invitation with a reply card, indicates to the recipient that you care about them and want them at your wedding. This good feeling will diminish if you invite them via Facebook.

If I were you, I would not do it,

What is a guest gift basket?

A wedding related gift basket, is a welcome basket with goodies for your out of town guests. It can include a map of the area with places to visit, fruit, nuts, soft drinks etc. and, it does not have to be a basket. You can place all these items in a paper gift bag. Leave a gift “Basket” in the hotel room of every out of town guest. Acknowledge and thank them for coming from afar to celebrate with you.

How big of a wedding cake do I need for 100 guests?

Answer:

Usually three tiers will serve 50 to 100 guests. If you want to keep the top tier, you will need four tiers. If you are on a budget, you may want the have a small wedding cake and save money as wedding cakes are quite expensive. The guests’ cake servings can be cut out of plain but frosted sheet cakes. The guests will not know the difference. You will probably need 3–4 but they will cost a fraction of the cost of a wedding cake.

How do you arrange to get a block of rooms at a hotel for a lower rate? It’s for a wedding.

Contact at least 3 hotels close to the wedding site and ask if they offer block reservations. Most hotel do, though some require a minimum number of reserved rooms.

TIP: Don’t tell the hotel that the reservation is for a wedding. Negotiate first! For some reason “Some wedding vendors charge more for a wedding than they do for other events. So, unless they ask, don’t say anything about a wedding.

Let the hotel manager know that you need (Number of rooms) and are “shopping for the best price”. Hotels like to have guests! If they compete with other hotels they will make some offers. Compare the offers and before you leave, ask them if they add a FREE room for the bride and groom as part of the package. Most hotels do, if you ask.

Choose the offer that attracts you most.

Can we plan a wedding with only a $1,000 budget?

I don’t know about 1000 dollars but my grand daughter’s wedding cost her under 2000 dollars.

It was held on a summer day in the late morning in a garden. So, the invitations indicated casual dress. There were no bridesmaids or groomsmen. The bridal bouquet was made of flowers from the garden. The reception food was a buffet that included: finger food, fruits and vegetables, salads, meat and cheese trays, bread and roles, sweets, soft drinks, champagne and beer all purchased at Costco. Sandwiches from Sub Way. Each 12 inch sandwich was cut to make 3 portions.

Music was amplified from her computer and the guests were asked to take pictures and email them to the newly weds.

It was a beautiful wedding and everyone had a great time, even the guests’ kids.

Oh, yes! Their wedding album includes wonderful photos taken with love by the guests.

What are some of the most important things to keep in mind when planning a wedding?

ANSWER:

Once your budget is ready, you can plan your wedding. If you are looking for stress less wedding planning, down load and print the now FREE Wedding Planning Guide Book. It contains information, tips, ideas, worksheets including questions to ask each of the wedding vendors you interview, and checklist to check what tasks still need to be done and affirm tasks that were completed.

What is the fastest way to plan a wedding?

ANSWER:

When you ask “What is the fastest way to plan a wedding” I don’t believe that you ask “What is the fastest way to get married”. Therefore I will skip getting married at the justice of the peace or court house which can be done as soon as the license you apply for grant you.

To be realistic, long engagements are not necessary. You can plan and have a wedding within a short time. The first thing you need to do is decide on the style of wedding you want who will conduct the ceremony and where it should take place.

Secure a date when an officiant is available. (Even next weekend). Choose a location where you do not depend on availability such as a hall.

My grand daughter had a fantastic mid-morning GARDEN WEDDING. The ceremony and the reception took place at the same location. She did rent a tent, tables and chairs etc. that were delivered and set up the day before.

The flowers for the bridal bouquet were from a local florist but the rest were from the garden. The reception food was mostly finger food, fruit meat and cheese platters, Soft drinks, water beer and wines from Costco, as well as sandwiches from Subway and pizza from a local Pizzeria.

Would you avoid a huge wedding to avoid the stress it brings?

ANSWER:

I would not avoid a huge wedding because a small or a huge wedding should not bring stress. A huge wedding will only be stressing is if it is a burden on your budget.

The number of guests attending should have no impact on your wedding joyful celebration. However make sure that you stay within your budget because you do not want to start your married life in debt.

The part of our wedding was worth the extra money was, most definitely the photographer!

Think less of the expense and more of getting the VERY BEST.

What is the best wedding planning hack/trick that most people don’t know?

ANSWER:

when you first interview vendors, let them know that you are planning an EVENT. Unless they specifically ask, don’t tell them that it is a wedding. Not all, but many vendors up their prices when the event is a wedding. They know that brides and grooms in general are willing to do anything to have the wedding of their dreams.

You may also mention that you are taking bids. Remember that when there is competition, there is room to negotiate terms.

Why is the wedding day considered the bride’s day when it’s about the joining of two people?

A published author of many articles and guides (1998-present)

Throughout history, going back to Bible times, the bride’s family was the determining party to marriage.

Eliezer needed to get to get her father’s permission for Rebecca to marry Isaac.

Laban had Jacob work for him for 7 years before he agreed to Jacob marriage to Leah and 7 additional years before Jacob could marry Rachel.

Until very recently, when many brides and grooms plan their own weddings, it was the bride’s family that was in charge and usually paid for the wedding.

When marriages were pre-arranged through a match maker, it was the bride’s family who hired the match maker.

Now lets look at the most common style of today’s wedding invitations. the wording is as follows:

Bride’s father’s first and last name and Bride’s mother’s first and last name request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter’s her first name to Mr. Groom’s first name, son of Groom’s father’s first and last name and Groom’s mother’s first and last name.

In fact throughout the generations and even in most of today’s marriage ceremonies, the father of the bride is asked to release his daughter to marry the groom and start their own family.

This is the reason for the wedding day to be considered the bride’s day.

Is this a hypothetical question or did it actually happened? If it is only a question, ask or have the ushers ask everyone including the groom to turn their phones off. Actually, neither you nor your groom should carry a phone during the ceremony. If it really happened I would be shocked but he would never know it. I would walk down the aisle without even a flinch. The groom would probably get an earful after the ceremony from family and guests who noticed his behavior. Unless the call was an emergency, he would have a hard time explaining why he was on the phone. Your wedding should be the happiest day of your life, as it should be for your groom. So don’t let anything put a damper over it. Enjoy yourself and have a great time.

Should a wedding ceremony be elaborate or not?

ANSWER

I don’t know what you consider to be an elaborate wedding ceremony.

The wedding ceremony is a solemn moment at which two separate entities become united creating a new family full of love. The setting should be festive but respectful of the occasion. The site should be decorated tastefully with flowers. You can add pew bows, rose petals etc. Appropriate music may play softly before and after the actual ceremony. However, it is the ceremony itself that is the most important and impactful. Your guests are at the ceremony site to witness your union.

You can elaborate the reception site, where the guest will celebrate with you.

What is an unplugged wedding ceremony?

ANSWER:

Think about the “Old Days”, when guests attended wedding ceremony and were focuses on the ceremony and what actually took place during that sacred moment, uniting the two people in marriage.

In today’s culture unless specifically requested not to, you will find some guests busy with their electronics (Items that need to be Plugged for recharging). When the marrying couple requests a gadget-free wedding, they want an unplugged wedding ceremony.

In other words, a ceremony in which the guests are asked to put away their cell phones, cameras, etc. so they can concentrate and witness the very important, sacred, life changing moment.

What is the significance of a ring during a wedding ceremony?

ANSWER:

When a couple exchanges rings at the wedding, they promise each other to love and remain faithful to one another throughout all of time.

Can couples wear wishbone rings?

ANSWER:

A ring by any name is a ring. The symbolism of its roundness is that it has no beginning and no end which means forever. As long as it is made of strong material that will not deteriorate, it is a perfect ring.

Both my granddaughter and her husband work in a lab. So they decided against precious metal rings, so as not to harm them with chemicals they use. I don’t know what their rings are made of but they are neither gold, silver or platinum.

So, go ahead! Wishbone rings are perfect wedding bands.

Can I make final payments for catering and rentals before I have the final guest count for my wedding? If the RSVP count is lower, do I get a refund for that extra money paid?

ANSWER:

I would not advise you to pay in full until you have an exact count. You may want to up it by 5 additional gusts for ‘just in case’.

If you your provide your caterer and rental place with a certain count, ( not your final) and you have a smaller number than you agreed upon and paid for, I doubt that you will be reimbursed.

However, if you pay only an agreed upon PORTION of the fees, you may be able to save by paying only for the actual number of guests.

NOTE:

Take into consideration that invitees who did not return the RSVP will show up as guests at your wedding. In fact, it happens quite often.

What happens to the leftover food in wedding?

Nily Glaser, Through articles I helped couples plan weddings since 1998

This is a very important question! I wish more people will ask it. If you have enough leftovers to do so safely, DONATE it to a homeless shelter, a rescue shelter or any shelter that is available in your community. Additionally, many houses of worship distribute food to the poor you may of course donate to them. make sure that you are aware of your local laws and health department regulations. Donate only food that will not go bad. Be cautious about giving any food that can spoil without immediate refrigeration. I do not recommend having your guests take food home. It is tacky.

Is it common for brides to have a separate reception dress?

ANSWER:

It is very common for brides to have a separate reception dress, especially if her wedding gown is long, as most are.

Usually, brides change to a more comfortable dress after the “required dances”, cutting the cake, throwing the bouquet and after the photographer captured the most important parts of the wedding. Brides change to the outfit or dress they will wear leaving the wedding for their honeymoon.

trend in general

Everything evolves and just like wedding themselves, all of their aspects change. Old trends are replaced by new ones that are often influenced by new developments in the wedding industry, from Martha Stewart, bridal magazines and TV food shows to the sophistication and Personal inspiration of brides and grooms.

The newest and most welcomed development is that today wedding planning is not merely the responsibility of the bride and her family. Today, most grooms actively participate in planning the wedding with their brides and are making creative choices as well. The majority, loves it! Today, brides and grooms want to make a statement to represent their uniqueness and how special they are. When either or one has children, theirs is a family wedding and the kids become an integral part. This brings us to another important wedding trend. The bride and groom incorporate their personal style making it the focal point at their wedding reception. To achieve this, they coordinate everything to the wedding colors, wedding themes, and flowers. For a family wedding, the kids are not only included, but when age and ability appropriate, participate in the decision-making and the actual ceremony and reception.

As part of who they are, it is becoming quite common for brides and grooms to get sentimental and either copy or use the actual wedding gown, cake top and other wedding related family heirlooms their grandparents or parents used at their weddings.
As part of who they are, it is becoming quite common for brides and grooms to get sentimental and either copy or use the actual wedding gown, cake top and other wedding related family heirlooms their grandparents or parents used at their weddings.

According to couples we interviewed, shopping on the Internet is definitely the most profound wedding trend of the 21st Century. Most went googling to find exactly what they want, often finding unique items they did not know were available. The general consensus was that they do not know how they would have planned or pulled their wedding together, without the Internet.
Brides and grooms, as well as those looking for wedding gifts and bridal accessories for them, use it and find it easy, convenient and safe. Quite a few interviewees said that they actually count on the Internet because they are just too busy. Brides and grooms actually enjoy getting together, sitting in front of the screen, to read articles to get ideas and choose what they want.
Once decided, they found purchasing on line not only saves them money, travel, running from store to store and standing in lines, but their orders are delivered directly to their homes or work. The majority said that they love it! Personalization – a definite trend in wedding cakes 21st Century brides and grooms want the wedding cake to be as individual as they are.
There used to be a time when brides chose a cake from the catalog the baker gave them, or brought a picture from a magazine. Today brides as well as grooms, realize how special they are and do not want a replica of a pictured cake. Aware that the wedding cake is the centerpiece of their reception, they want to have their cake individually designed to their own personal style and taste, both taste in design and taste in flavor. So they put on their thinking caps and are coming in with their own ideas, usually coordinating their cake design, the frosting design, the decorations and the cake topper, with the wedding color scheme, wedding theme, bridal attire, flowers, wedding accessories, reception hall decor, and if they have children, the family.

Having provide the bakers with details to adhere to, they expect the result to be a totally unique and PERSONALIZED cake. The Shape Gone are the over-embellished cakes. Today brides and grooms want to express themselves with wedding cakes to look luxurious, classy and elegant, coordinate well with the wedding motifs and taste scrumptiously good.
Though round tiers are still the favorite, tiers shaped as square, octagon, and hexagon are gaining popularity, as do tiers of different shapes stacked together. For example, round tiers on square or hexagon tiers. Once assemble the shape(s) and color(s) chosen should produce a simple yet luxurious, classy and elegant look. The Structure The trend in cake structure offer a few choices all leave plenty of room for personalization and creativity.

A 21st Century traditional wedding cake is usually assembled of 3 to 5 tiers stacked upon each other without a separation such as the once popular Greek columns. A variation is a wedding cake ensemble that displays each layer individually rather than stacked. connected by a motif.
A relatively new comer is the drum. This is a popular technique that brides and groom appreciate. Basically, bakers add a layer looking Styrofoam insert that adds height and volume to the cake without the expense of a cake layer. The inserts provide a perfect place to tuck in charms for the charm pull, flowers or cake jewelry should the couple want to utilize it in this manner.

An ever-growing number of marrying couples are choosing alternatives to the traditional wedding cake save one tier for the bride and groom to slice and feed each other and for wedding photos.

With the costs of weddings in general and the rise in wedding cakes relating fees, a few new trends have become quite popular. Brides and grooms, especially if they have to stay within a specified budget are looking for ways to save money. So, what used to be a creative alternative by some became a trend.
The trend concentrates on options that eliminate the cutting and serving fees usually charged by caterers.
Other benefits that were realized, are that they can also shave off the centerpiece expense and serve as dessert. Following are two options that are individual single layer wedding cake for each table to makes a spectacular and edible centerpiece. For additional fun, guests are invited to cut and serve the guests seated at their table. A cupcake wedding cake actually, cupcake tower as a wedding cake is a well-liked trend. Most couples top their cupcake tower with a cake tier for the bride and groom. Quite a few brides and grooms we interviewed, planned to place a mini cup cake tower on each table as a dessert and centerpiece in one. We even came across brides and grooms who chose Golden donuts because donuts look like wedding bands. There are a few reasons the single layer centerpiece. the cupcake or mini-cupcakes and even the donuts wedding cakes to some extent, are becoming very popular. They are real money savers. They do not require special skills and can be home-baked way ahead of time and frozen. They can be lavishly decorated and makes a wonderful edible centerpiece to be enjoyed by all. They can have different flavors, various delicious fillings, different though coordinating colors and fancy decorations. Busy brides and grooms can place an order with a supermarket that offers a bakery, or shopping clubs such as Costco and Sam’s Club where they are very reasonably priced. They eliminate all slicing and serving costs. They allow, actually invite creativity.

A common denominator we encountered was couples who utilized different colors and – or themes for their centerpiece cakes to distinguish the different tables. matching the place settings and place cards. For example The RED ROSE table – card: Mr. and Mrs. Smith the RED TABLE. Or The PINK ROSE table – card: Mr. and Mrs. Jones the PINK TABLE. Whether sophisticated, whimsical or anywhere in between, Cupcake and mini cake centerpieces are unique and gaining popularity fast. The Icing on the CakeThough butter cream, and cream cheese frostings are still in demand, the current trend in cake frosting is Rolled fondant or the less expensive faux-fondant with its smooth porcelain look, is the most popular frosting currently put on wedding cakes.

It was not quite as popular until bakers started to enrich it with flavor and color. Now, that bakers can match wedding colors, motifs, duplicate intricate details and create silhouettes to complement wedding themes, Rolled has become a real favorite.

The popularity of the fondant type frosting is that it is very luxurious and elegant in its smooth, porcelain like look. It encourages creativity. Bakers can match wedding colors, motifs, duplicate intricate details and create silhouettes to complement wedding theme and embellish with scroll work. The Flavors When I got married, the wedding cake was either vanilla, chocolate or a marble of the two. Today there are tens of flavors for the bride and groom to choose from. Many tend to choose a different flavor for each tier, cake, or a certain number of cupcakes to represent their individual favorite cake flavors. Some add different filling for each cake flavor as well as frostings of different flavors. The Decorations Personalization is paramount. Brides and grooms use their freedom of expression throughout the wedding and the cake is no exception.

The latest trend is to s The Wedding Cake Companions – recent trend. Two 21st trends one a historical custom renewed and the other brand new are the Grooms cake and the Children Family wedding cake.

The Groom Cake is a concept that was unfamiliar, when I got married 42 years ago but was familiar earlier in history. It has made a comeback and is occupying center stage. placed on the same table with the wedding cake. Though Chocolate on chocolate remains the favorites for the Single-layer rectangle Groom Cake, many brides like to choose a cake flavor and design that will make him happy. Thus, it is decorated to represent his unique personality, hobbies and interests. Some wedding cake bakers add a Groom Cake as a part of their package. Otherwise, ordering it in a Supermarket, or a shopping clubs that have bakeries that decorate cakes, is money saving tactic used by many.

The Children Family wedding cake, is a rather new concept that evolved quite recently, as more and more Blending Family Weddings that include children began to take place.
Celebrating their blending family, many couples use a Family Cake topper to celebrate their creating a new, extended, blended family. Their cake table also includes a cake celebrating the kids.

We have come across a few variations of the cake.
A Single-layer rectangle, Frosted with the color chosen (voted for?) by the kids and decorated with their various, hobbies and interests, topped with a Family Cake Topper currently available with a bride a groom and a boy, a bride a groom and a girl or a silhouette style a bride a groom and two children.

A cupcake tower is very popular with the kids too. Each layer of cupcakes can be devoted to a single child, So if for example Ben likes blue and plays soccer, his layer of cupcakes can be decorated accordingly, while the layer devoted to Susie who loves anything lavender and who wants to be a teacher can be decorated accordingly.

Traditionally, the oldest child gets the bottom layer and the youngest the layer closer to the top. Surround the center layer with a ribbon personalized with the bride and groom’s first names and wedding date. Though the cake is consumed, the ribbon becomes a wedding keepsake.
Wedding theme and seasons are dominant throughout the wedding and the cake as well.
Cutouts silhouettes in any color to accent the wedding theme adorn many wedding cakes.
Fall theme wedding cakes take on a look of their own when embellished with colorful autumn leaves, mini pumpkins and marzipan fruit and acorns.

Winter theme cakes look gorgeous embellished with snowflakes or dressed up as holiday gifts.
Flowers and floral petals that match the wedding theme and colors whether Fresh, silk, satin or confection, have always been and are still a popular adornment for wedding cakes. Another trend is the dramatic effect of Flowers going from bold color to pastel as they cascade to the top, with the bottom tier bold and the top tier in pastel. For example go from dark red to pink flowers or from dark purple to pale lavender flowers.

Simple decorations such as the look of pearls, curving scroll work, and family initials are in demand. The trend of incorporating two or more shades of the same color within frosting is also getting noticed. The Cake Tops Wedding Cake Trends: Unique Cake Top
The cake tops is the crown of the wedding cake. It is a keepsake that should also make the wedding cake a conversation piece.

Personalization is the current trend. Cake toppers are often chosen because they either reflect the lifestyle or hobbies the bride and groom share together, coordinate with the wedding theme, emphasize the wedding flowers or display their initials.

Although the well-known plastic bride and groom cake tops are still around, today the trend is to incorporate a unique, personalized or theme top on the wedding cake. One of the hottest cake top trends is individual initials or a monogram created with stunning Cake Jewelry.
Flowers offer a way to tie together the colors and floral scheme of the ceremony and reception and are very pleasing to the eye. Therefore, flower and ribbon cake tops have never died out and though they are not a trend, they are quite popular.

For family weddings, family cake tops that represent a bride, a groom and children are in very high demand.

TIP:
Set and adhere to your wedding cake budget. Visit with at least 3 wedding cake chefs, leaving room for negotiations. Check out their portfolios and taste samples of their cakes. Be sure to get everything in a written contract that does not leave room for price changes.

Most wedding vows specify “till death do us part.” Is this still realistic and what would you propose as a substitute?

ANSWER:

There is no substitute!

wedding vows specify “till death do us part.” It is, or at least it should be as realistic today as it was going back to Bible days.

A vow is like swearing and every word should have a life long meaning. After all, the vow is not only in front of witnesses, but it is given to the person you love. The person you should consider the most important in your life. The person you intend to share your life with. Where I am concerned, you are bound to keep it. My husband and I certainly did. We have been very happily very married for over 55 years. A few of our friends had ‘Renewal of the Vows ceremonies. My husband would not hear of it! His reply was straight forward: “I meant it when I vowed at our wedding. So, why repeat what is already set in stone?”

What are wedding reception ideas for outdoor weddings and is it expensive?

To answer your question, I will tell the story of my granddaughter’s wedding in 2021 from all places in New York.

My Granddaughter just got married in a garden wedding. Her wedding reception ideas are perfect for any outdoor weddings such as a garden, a beach or a park. It was an awesome wedding and not counting the attire, was inexpensive. It cost less than $2,000..

My granddaughter and her then fiance are students with very limited finances. With the Corona virus overhead, they decided to have a garden wedding. the ceremony took place in the early afternoon, under a decorated stand. The reception was in an outdoor tent. The guests came to the wedding from all over the country (California, Colorado, Texas,Tennessee and of course New York) to witness and celebrate. They wanted to enjoy the newlyweds very special day, and each other. So, there was no entertainment. It would have been illegal under Gov. Cuomo’s rule. The tent was decorated with flowers and centerpieces. There was champagne, wine soft drinks, coffee, and lunch platters (From a restaurant). Also, fruit and finger snacks were served buffet style.

It was a beautiful wedding filled with love and joy.

What would you do if you felt like your groomsman dressed better than you on your wedding day?

By Nily Glaser, Author of the now FREE Planning Guide Book. CLICK HERE to go to her magazine website to get your FREE copy. No strings attached!

What stores do you recommend for bridesmaids dresses?

What should I do if I want my best friend to be a part of my wedding party (MOH), but she is extremely poor and Can’t afford to do anything that comes with being in the bridal party, and that means I might have to pay for her to be a part?

Nily Glaser, Through articles I helped couples plan aweddings since 1998

you want your best friend to be your maid of honor but you do not want to create bad feelings. So, first ask her to be your MOH. If she agrees, you have a few choices. If as you say she is extremely poor but is your best friend you should “gift” her with items she would need to purchase on her own otherwise. Consider that you do not want to insult or otherwise hurt her feelings so be very casual approaching the following. Take her with you when you go shopping for your wedding gown and buy her the dress and shoes when you buy your gown. Tell her something like “ I need your eyes and your opinion”. Once at the store, look around and tell her that you notice this beautiful dress and have her try it on. Explain that as your MOH you want her to look stunning. Additionally, give her the option to either wear a dress she already owns, or suggest that she looks around and find a favorite dress. Even better, have her choose her attire from another store or even of the Internet. (You will save money.) You may suggest to be with her when she shops for her attire. Tell her that everyone at your wedding party expects a gift from the bride and groom. It is a given! So the dress and shoes are your gift to your MOH as she is more than just a bridesmaid. You say that she can’t afford to do anything that comes with being in the bridal party. Yes there are many thing she can do that will not incur expenses. She can help you organize, she can also help you choose decoration etc. You can give her specific tasks so she can help at the reception. I am sure that you got the idea. If none of the above ideas works for you, and you have not done so, do not ask her to be your MOH. Contributed by Nily Glaser, author of the currently FREE Wedding Planning Guide Book.

Is the “white” wedding really necessary for Africans? Do Europeans perform traditional weddings?

What is a “white” wedding?

Do you mean the bride wearing white? If this is what you mean, the answer is that the “white” wedding is absolutely not necessary, it is strictly a choice. It has become the most common in some countries including the USA.

However, if you comb the internet under weddings traditions, you will find many examples of the customs and traditions of different countries and ethnicity. For example: Look for bridal attire in India, China, Muslim countries, some European countries etc.

What would you do if one of your bridesmaids didn’t like the dress you have chosen for her?

ANSWER:

First thing, I will ask her if she does or does not want to be a bridesmaid. If she does, I would let her choose her own dress, as long as it matches the other bridesmaids’ dresses in material and color.

Chances are that the price will be so much higher, that she will change her mind and wear the dress you chose. if she still prefers to choose her own dress, she will still blend well with the other bridesmaids.

Remember: You must insist on identical color and material, especially the color.

Why do brides wear a veil over their head?

ANSWER:

The tradition of brides wear a veil over their head goes back to Biblical Days.

When Jacob wanted to marry Rachel, He asked her father Laban for her hand and Laban reaction was; “You have to work for me for 7 years and at the end of this time, I shall give you her hand in marriage.” Well, Rachel had an older sister Leah so, Laban covered her head until after the marriage ceremony at which point Jacob discovered that he married Leah instead of Rachel. Now, he had to work 7 more years in order to be allowed to marry his love, Rachel.

Since both Judaism and Christianity believe in the Bible and its stories, brides wear a veil over their head.

How can I convince my Indian parents to allow me to not have a traditional Indian wedding? I want a normal wedding like where the bride wheres a white dress and stuff (The last time I was in India was when I was 4-5)

I have a few questions for you.

Q. Who is in charge of your wedding, mostly FINANCIALLY?

A. If your parents are paying for the wedding, they expect to make some decisions.

Q. Is the groom Indian too?

A. If not, it might be easier to convince your parents to have what you consider a “normal wedding like where the bride wheres a white dress and stuff “ However, if the groom is Indian too, get his opinion regarding having a NON-Indian wedding, even before you approach your parents.

Q. Can you be flexible enough to allow following a few Indian wedding traditions at your wedding?

A. This will probably help convince your parents that you – their daughter, the bride are not ignoring or disrespecting your family’s culture and traditions.

I have witnessed a wedding between a Mexican groom and a Jewish bride where the ceremony included the Mexican traditions of the groom giving the bride 13 coins and the Lazzo they use to “tie” their lives together. The ceremony also included the Jewish wedding tradition of groom shuttering a glass. It was beautiful and made everyone happy. So incorporating tradition into the wedding is a good thing. I have answered many questions. If you like my answers, join my group at:

Should I avoid attending my stepdaughter’s wedding? She told me (stepdad) that I won’t walk her down the aisle but her “real” Dad will.

ANSWER:

Go to the wedding and share your stepdaughter’s happiness. If anyone gives a speech, they can mention you as a guest of honor, as part of the family, or say something about your contribution to her upbringing.

However, her dad is her dad and her request to have him lead her to the altar is natural.

At my granddaughter’s wedding, her step dad lead her part of the way down the aisle, but her dad brought her to the altar.

Since both were an important part of her life, she decided to honor both her dads.

Is it necessary for a bridesmaid to assist the bride all the time

ANSWER:

If you accept the role and honor of being a bridesmaid, you should consider the obligation as well. Be ready to help the bride as much as you can, unless you are asked to perform reasonable duties that you simply cannot or are restricted from performing.

Case in point: I know a bride that wanted her bridesmaids not only to purchase their own attire, but to also pitch in for her gown.

She was so demanding and so unreasonable that all her chosen bridesmaids declined the honor. The groom chose an even number of groomsmen, so he could have them walk in and stand in pairs.

If you were a bridesmaid or groomsmen, do you sit with your significant other at the reception or did you have to sit with the wedding party?

Why do people think it’s okay to have a “Hawaiian” themed party?

ANSWER:

A “Hawaiian” themed party is very popular as are themes like

Image Name

Hawaiian, Winter, Medieval, Cinderella – Fairy Tale, Beach, A Civil Wedding, a Military wedding, Fall, USA Independence (Red White and Blue) and more.

Why consider a theme wedding?

• If you know that you want a specific kind of wedding, but don’t know where to start, or how to incorporate all the details, add a theme into your wedding preparations.

• Concentrating your wedding planning on a specific theme makes planning easier.

• It is your day. You want it to be special, uniquely yours, a day that expresses you and creates lifetime memories.

• You most probably want your guests to experience an unforgettable wedding.

• Picking a theme that reflects something you both like, a celebration of your heritage(s), things that represent the time of year you chose for your wedding and – or a theme that is just lots of fun will leave all with a memorable wedding and the bride and groom with lots of mementos.

• Choosing a theme will inspire you to come up with creative ideas and a way to have your personal touch provide for a truly one-of-a-kind celebration.

• Incorporating your theme and focusing on it in as many aspects of the wedding as possible, such as the décor, attire, wedding accessories, food, cake, music etc. will make planning your wedding easy and enjoyable.

• Checking the Internet for supplies and wedding accessories in your chosen theme will provide you with creative ideas too.

• Having a theme wedding can save you money as well. Note: Choose your theme right after you have chosen your wedding date and location, before you start the actual planning. Choose your wedding colors at the same time. This way you can coordinate your wedding decorations, attire (if applicable for themes such as Western, International, historical etc), favors, flowers, cakes, menu and the other theme related items…

You are 16 years old. You are a kid.

Kids even bridesmaids should not be expected to pay for such luxuries as a bachelorette party. (It is not a necessary event)

  • Tell your mother that you cannot afford to host her party because you save your money for something specific.
  • Anyway, if anyone should pickup the tab it should be the maid of honor.
  • Another option is that all the ladies in the bridal party pitch in and collect enough to cover the cost and invite your mom to a bachelorette party.
  • However, it is not mandatory to have a bachelorette party, at a venue.
  • You have another option. Plan a “surprise party” at someone’s house and make it as inexpensive as possible. Have the hostess and invitees bring finger food, munchies hot and cold drinks and champagne and or wine. (Kind of like a pot luck).
  • Have everyone think of wedding related games and have fun. (Check the internet for game ideas under – bridal shower games.)

Wedding Planning, Who’s Wedding Is It Anyway?

ANSWER:

Wedding Planning, Who’s Wedding Is It Anyway?

I bet that you heard the following statements relating to weddings:

  • Bridal Show – Where wedding professionals, vendors and service providers present their goods and services.
  • Bridal Shower – Where brides are showered with gifts.
  • Bridal Party – The title given family members and wedding Attendants.
  • Bridal Chorus – Music traditionally played at the ceremony.
  • Bridal Accessories – Accessories needed for the ceremony and reception.

One could think that the wedding is just for the bride.
So, where does the groom fit in?

In the past, tradition called for the bride and her family to plan, and be responsible for the wedding. The groom and his family were often, but not always, asked to participate in specific aspects such as: Flowers for the bride, the mothers, the groom and male attendants, Music and the Officiant.

My husband’s parents supplied the wedding cake.

Times, they are changing!

The traditional family of “Leave it to Beaver” where the man worked out of the house, supporting the family while the wife stayed home caring for the home and the children is reserved to too few families.

Today, both men and women work, earning a living and sharing responsibilities for the home and the children. It has become commonplace for men to shop, do housework and care for their children. In fact the term “House Husband” no longer sounds strange.

More and more brides and grooms live together prior to marriage.

The traditional responsibility of the bride’s parents to plan and fulfill their daughter’s dream wedding has shifted. Today, a majority of the working brides and grooms pay all, or a large percentage of the wedding costs.

Another change in the wedding scene is the large number of brides and grooms who have been married before. Their weddings may include children.

So, who’s wedding is it anyway?
The bride’s and the groom’s of course.

Quite frequently, it is recognized not only with engagement parties for both but also with wedding showers where both bride and groom are showered with gifts.

Though there are still some aspects specific to brides or grooms, they should plan their big day together. It is important that each of them bears the responsibility and commitment to their relationship as a soon to be a married couple, preparing for their wedding day. It is also an important judge as to how comfortable with, and yielding to each other the bride and groom are.

Today’s grooms are just as excited as their brides at the prospect of their upcoming marriage. They do not want to be guests at their own wedding. Rather, they want to be active participants in planning their wedding and honeymoon with their brides. They want to contribute financially, they want their opinions considered and they want to be involved in the decision making. Working as a team planning the wedding, gives the bride and groom a wonderful opportunity to dream together, share their thoughts, plan together and have the wedding of their dream. All the while, sharing the excitement, fun and occasional disagreements and resolutions, associated with wedding planning and later, with married life.

Working together brings the bride and groom closer together as they learn more and more about each other, and is a good beginning to later, jointly plan their life together.

We have seen the trend gaining momentum, as brides often ask A-wedding Day how to involve their grooms in planning their wedding. We have also noticed a dramatic increase in the number of men purchasing not only jewelry and gifts, but wedding accessories for the ceremony and reception.

You plan to share your life as a couple, you owe it to both of you to plan your wedding as a couple. You’ll enjoy a rewarding experience, the memories of which will last a lifetime.

This is totally up to you.

Hosting a wedding shower for the same couple is quite a gift by itself. It entails expenses, planning, preparing, inviting and actually having a wedding shower.

If the shower is not a secret, your gift can be an invitation to those attending the first shower to come to yours, generating double gifts for the couple.

Can the spending pattern in a wedding determine the level of financial literacy of the couple?

Planning a wedding budget and Preparing for Marriage? Taking a Financial Compatibility Quiz should be a priority before starting your life together. When people fall in love, they find it difficult to bring up the topic of financial habits and to talk about money. Sharing your perspectives about money will help you resolve financial issues before they strain your relationship or marriage. Do it as soon as possible, long before you get married, because unresolved money issues are a leading cause of many broken marriages. Don’t be a statistic and don’t let your marriage be one of them.

You discuss the relationship you developed with each other. It is crucial that you also discuss your relationships with money. After all, you are two individuals who were brought up in different families, with different backgrounds and possibly have different savings and spending habits. You need to come to a financial arrangement that will make both of you comfortable as a married couple. You plan to get married and share your lives. This requires that you develop strong communication skills and openness. As you go over the financial quiz you may realize that either or both of you need to work on some aspects of Financial Management.

Money is most often a heavy topic and must be discussed and relationships are about openness and compromise. So lighten it! We provide you with an easy way to get into the Money discussion. You can even make it a game. For example, my husband and I discuss finances and money matters while playing MONOPOLY. First, we each jot down each question we would like to discuss, on a card. We place the cards face down in the center of the board. Whenever one of us lands on either CHANCES or COMMUNITY CHEST, he or I pick up a question card. We stop the game to discuss the issue. We keep the game for only so long so that it does not become a burden. We usually stop the game after no more than 5 issues have been discussed. Once you reach an understanding of each other’s financial ways, and come up with a financial blue print for your married life, you may even decide to develop a written family financial plan, that includes goals, individual duties, responsibilities and financial policies for both of you to follow. This is why I suggest that you engage in a Money Matters dialog as early in your relationship as possible.

The following questions are merely guidelines.

So, get yourself a piece of paper or cards and a pen get together over a cup of coffee, some other treat or a game (card games work well too. The winner brings up the question he – she would like to discuss.) and answer the questions that apply to your situation. Though most can be answered by True or False, whenever possible follow with a discussion.

Why do people think it’s acceptable to ask guests to bring food to their wedding?

ANSWER:

A wedding is beautiful indeed, Marriage and parenting are what you make of them.

Of course they may pose difficulties and all marriages and child rearing have their difficult moments. You cannot escape them!

The key to a happy rewarding marriage is to look at the entire picture.

My husband and I have been very happily very married for 55 years.

we went through some very tough times but what may weaken some marriages (Unemployment for example) strengthened our commitment, support, and understanding of and to each other.

As to parenting, here too it is part of the process to go through some rough spots.

However, there are many rewarding events too. Lifetime celebrations, fun family times, special achievements, successes and the accomplishments that make it all worth while.

When you look back as we have, now that we are great grandparents, we hardly remember the difficult times.

So, my suggestion is that you should work to resolve the difficult times but concentrate on the rewarding aspects of your “Married with Children” life.

It is rather unfortunate but it is a very awkward feeling at a wedding rehearsal dinner when the people invited are not told in advance that they will have to pay for their own meals.

It happened to me. Usually the groom’s family picks up the tab for the rehearsal dinner. So, when I got the bill for my meal, I was shocked because it never happened to me before. I was not prepared to pay and therefore had no cash at the time. It would have been very embarrassing if not for my Credit Card. Credit Card to the rescue! What would we do without them.

NOTE:

If I had been told in advance that I would have to pay for my meal at a very expensive restaurant, I might add, I would have been able to decide whether to attend the dinner or excuse myself from going.

I would. Does no FORMAL invitation was received means that you are not invited? Or were you invited orally or by email? I experienced a disappointment when I did not receive an invitation to our best friends son’s wedding. Our friends were angry because at first we did not reply and eventually did not attend the wedding. We learned almost a year later that our invitation was lost in the mail. When it was finally delivered, it all torn and crumpled. So, if you see a reason why you would not have been formally invited, accept it. Otherwise, ask if your invitation could have possibly been lost in the http://mail.In either case, if you love your niece, are happy for her, and wish her the very best, show it by giving her a wedding gift. Reception Options for a bridal shower brunch·

You have a few options. All of them are easy on your budget.

A brunch is a light fare type meal. Following are a few options to choose from or combine:

A salad and sandwich luncheon reception is perfect for a late morning brunch. It is less costly than a sit-down meal as it offers a wide selection of foods and drinks. The best foods are salads, dressings, cheeses, cold cuts, fruits, and breads or even sandwiches. Drinks should include: water, soda, tea and coffee.

Or you may choose or add:

An Hors d’oeuvres or Deli Trays to your luncheon Reception. In this type of reception, guests serve themselves from platters containing light finger foods, fruit and vegetables, cheeses, crackers, cold cuts, breads and rolls. You may also add some hot finger foods such as egg rolls, chicken wings, meatballs etc. Here too the drinks should be water, coffee, tea and soft drinks.

You may of course add a cake, an assortment of rich baked goods, nuts and candies.

What is a meaningful gift to give a daughter on her wedding day?

Depending on her needs, especially if she is first moving into a home or an apartment, furniture is quite a meaningful gift. My mother purchased our first living room with a sofa matching chairs and coffee table. (We chose and she paid).

However, the most meaningful gift to give a daughter on her wedding day, if you have one (or more) would be a FAMILY HEIRLOOM. Something that should be handed down from generation to generation.

We gave such items to our kids when they got married. Our (now just my) granddaughter just got married and as per her grandfather’s request before he died, I gave her groom grandpa’s wedding ring that he proudly wore for 55 years of a happy marriage. I also gave our granddaughter grandpa’s gold necklace that she intends to keep wearing.

These items will be worn by the couple and eventually be handed down to their kids.

You are not supposed to bring gifts. In other words it is not a requirement for attend a wedding or a rehearsal and you certainly do not need to bring a gift to each.

However, wedding invitees do gift the bride and groom and it is the right thing to do.

If you are invited to the rehearsal, it is not only appropriate, but SMART to give the gift at the rehearsal instead of at the wedding for 2 reasons:

It is easier to transport the gifts, as there are not as many gifts as are brought to the wedding itself.

I do not want to cause you worry but when my granddaughter had her wedding, she had a gift table that included a special box for money gifts. She found out after the wedding that the box mysteriously disappeared. You may suggest to the bride and groom to appoint a gift table observer.

How would you feel if you were not invited to your godchild’s (a person that you have a good relationship with) wedding? Should you still give a gift?

https://www.quora.com/profile/Nily-Glaser

I am a grandma whose granddaughter was just married. I would have been devastated if I were not invited to her wedding. In fact I flew from Texas to NY to attend the happiest day of her life.

The questions I have are: Who put together the wedding and the guest list?

Was your grandchild involved in the decision? did s/he approve of you not being invited?

Did by some chance (it happened to me) they mailed you an invitation that got lost in the mail?

Check to find the answers.

Well, as a grandma myself, I WILL most certainly give a gift. If for no other reason, because I am sure that you want to wish him/her the very best.
